FUNDING

Fundatia ADEPT was specifically formed to implement the Agricultural Development and Environmental Protection in Transylvania (ADEPT) project and funding to date as seen the creation of the first Public Private Partnership (PPP) in Romania for such a project.

Fundatia ADEPT is registered as a charity in the UK (reg. no. 1121371) and Romania (nr. 17034237). Donations are therefore eligible for tax relief under Gift aid (UK), or Romanian charity tax relief.

Donations can also be made in the USA through Pro Patrimonio Foundation, and are deductible under Section 501(c)(3) of the Inland Revenue Code (USA).

ADEPT is seeking further funding for this innovative project that is successfully giving equal emphasis to nature conservation and local prosperity.

ADEPT is supported by Orange Romania, by the Romanian Government’s Environment Fund, the British Government’s Darwin Initiative and Environment for Europe funds, and other charities.


DARWIN INITIATIVE

24 March 2006: Project Funding

The British Government Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has announced the award of €140,000 per year to support the ADEPT project for 2006-2009, under its Darwin Initiative programme. This represents important recognition for ADEPT of the scientific strengths and social/environmental/developmental good practices being implemented and raises the international profile of the project.

The Defra press release announced that 41 new projects in 40 countries will share £8.3 million under Round 14 of the Darwin Initiative. These projects focus on capacity building, partnerships, community engagement, and livelihoods. The application (no 621) was headed by the Grasslands Trust.


ORANGE

The first public-private partnership in Romania for agri-environment projects was announced on Monday 5th December 2005 at a press conference by Richard Moat, Chief Executive Officer of Orange Romania. Richard Moat emphasised that the ADEPT Foundation project had been selected by Orange as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, because of its innovative mix of economic development, conservation and education.

Messages of support for the programme were given by:

  • Danut Apetrei, State Secretary for Rural Development, at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests & Rural Development;
  • Attila Korodi, Sate Secretary for European Integration, Ministry of Environment and Water Management;
  • Florin Naicu, Deputy Director, National Agency for Agricultural Consultancy, Mures County;
  • Calin Cenger, Biodiversity Department, Environment Protection Agency, Mures County.

The press conference was held in Bucharest and attended by national press and television.
