SAXON VILLAGE DRIED HERBS

Eight prototype solar driers were built in 2006. The heat exchanger has a poly-carbonate cover, black painted metal sheets to soak up the heat and ventilation controls to regulate the airflow

P1010221The drying chamber has up to 12 trays to support sliced fruits, herbs and vegetables.

Wheels are fitted to allow daily positioning to catch maximum sun.

In 2006, excellent samples of sun dried tomato and apples were produced that were favourably received in the UK market. However the star performer in 2007 has been dried herbs for tea mixes and vegetables for adding to soup in winter. No surplus was available over household requirements for pilot marketing.

Plans for 2008 are to increase production, improve packaging / labeling and to generate sales.
